First Visit
Survey & Consultation
During the initial survey and consultation, we will visit your home or business to inspect the condition of your floors. This step is crucial for assessing the scope of work, including checking for any damage, wear, and the type of wood.
At this point, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your expectations, desired finish, and any specific requirements or concerns you may have. This is the time to ask questions and express any particular preferences for your floors.
Based on the inspection and your preferences, we will advise on the best course of action. This can include recommendations on the type of sanding needed, choices of finishes (e.g., varnish, oil, or wax), and any necessary repairs or preparation work.
Once the consultation has been completed, we will discuss and confirm the project details with you – and give you an idea of how long the work will take and any preparations you need to make (such as clearing the room).
Second Visit
Work Day
The first job for the floor sander is to strip the old floor coatings. The wood floor is sanded 3 times to a smooth clean surface. The purpose is to strip away these layers to expose the bare wood beneath, ensuring that the new finish adheres properly and evenly. This is typically done using professional sanding equipment that can remove coatings without damaging the wood.
If you have selected a wood floor stain to change from light to dark wood floors, it is applied at this stage. Alternatively, the wood floor refinishing process begins with the first of three coats of professional wood floor varnish. It’s important to select the right type of stain that complements the wood’s natural beauty and meets your aesthetic preferences.
Between coats, the floor is lightly abraded to ensure a long-lasting durable finish. Drying times between coats of the wood floor varnish is about 1 hour depending on conditions.
When the third and final coat is dry, your floor will look new again and accessible to light foot traffic.
